Taarana’s Enriching Experiential Learning Programme
43 of our students at Taarana had a rare hand at experiential learning when they took part in a special one-and-a-half-day programme held at the school on 25 and 26 May, 2012.
The Taarana Experiential Learning Programme, as it was called, was co-organised with Globalknox, an organisation that aims to bring a fresh and new perspective to the development of human potential. The programme was the first of its kind to be organised by us, and involved various fun outdoor activities such as camping, water sports, a rope course, drumming and more. The programme was designed in a way that each activity provided our children with a new challenge and a new experience which will help them learn and explore beyond their capabilities. This, we hope, will open up their path to learning.
16 of the 43 students, who were in upper primary, also took part in an overnight camping activity held within the school grounds. The older students were involved in the setting of their own tents for the night. Other than instilling in them a spirit of community-living, the activity also inculcated in them a sense of independence at the same time.
Overall, the Taarana Experiential Learning Programme was not only beneficial for our children, but also for their parents, because it gave them an opportunity to get to know one another and draw wisdom from each other’s hands-on experience of caring for our children at Taarana.
We look forward to organising more of such programmes in future, as it is in line with our mission to empower students with the necessary skills and abilities to cope with society and live a normal life.
