Taarana Empowers Parents with Fun, Interactive Workshops

20/06/2024

At Taarana School, we believe in supporting our amazing students and their families with essential knowledge and skills.

Recently, we hosted two workshops for the parents of our students, focusing on ‘Health and Hygiene’ and ‘Improving Sitting Tolerance.’ These workshops are part of our ongoing effort to support the families of our neurodivergent students.

Essential Health and Hygiene Skills

The Health and Hygiene workshop gave parents valuable insights and practical strategies to support their children.

Workshop Highlights

  • Support Strategies: Parents discovered practical methods to help their children with daily hygiene routines, promoting a clean and healthy lifestyle.
  • DIY Teaching Materials: This session emphasised creativity, showing parents how to create engaging teaching materials using everyday household items. This approach not only saves costs but also makes learning fun at home.
  • Hands-On Learning: Parents participated in practical sessions, applying their newfound knowledge in real-time, making the learning experience interactive and engaging.

Overcoming Sensory Challenges

This workshop focused on improving sitting tolerance, which is crucial for enhancing focus and learning outcomes for our students.

Workshop Highlights

  • Understanding Sensory Challenges: Parents better understood their children’s sensory challenges, enabling them to provide better support.
  • Interactive Activities: This session introduced fun activities to improve sitting tolerance, including reward systems and timers. These tools help gradually increase a child’s time to comfortably sit and engage in activities.
  • Hands-On Practice: Parents practiced the techniques learned, ensuring they felt confident implementing them at home.

Fostering Community at Taarana

These sessions were more than just educational; they were a fantastic opportunity for parents to connect, share experiences, and build a supportive community. At Taarana, we believe in the power of collaboration between the school and families to create a nurturing environment for our students.

The workshops also highlight our commitment to holistic education, where empowering parents is pivotal in our students’ development.

“We look forward to organising more such initiatives and continually striving to make a positive impact on the lives of our students and their families,” said Dr Sunitha Sivakumaran, the Principal of Taarana.
